All nighters.

I just have to quote it word by word. Well, except for the Tower. The main tower in Nottingham is the one of the School of Astrophysics. Where lawyers are not allowed to in. Anyways, dawn on the books/papers/laptop is great. Given that you still have to go to bed, and not that you just woke up.

Sometimes I really like them. I like the thrill of being up all night; the happy, drunken feeling you get in the very late hours; the idea that your living in stolen time. It’s also totally gratifying. You work harder than you think you can, become totally enthralled in what your writing, however mundane it is, then, finally, when you’re close to finishing and running on fumes, for the first time in months, sometimes even years, you get to watch the sun rise, and it’s like some incredible reward.

The perfect place for this in the world, I would argue, is the top floor of a building here called the tower, the tallest in Southern Maine. From there, on a clear morning, you can see twenty miles in every direction and all the way out to the coast. But the best part is, since Bowdoin is the Eastern most college in the United States, you know you are the first of all the college students across the country who gets to see it. How cool is that? It’s also why one of our mascots is the arctic sun… And this post would be consequence of that aforementioned “happy, drunken feeling.”
